There have been some fantastic highlights out of Dallas Cowboys training camp in its first week on the field. While there is quite a bit of optimism about the potential of this team heading into 2021. The offense looks to be in great shape and healthy. CeeDee Lamb has been fantastic by all accounts, and some rookies have impressed. Despite the optimism, there are still several questions that need answering, namely on the defensive side of the ball.

The numbers at cornerback and linebacker have helped raise the competition level for both positions. With both veteran and youthful talent at both positions, the Cowboys seem to be in good shape to find a good rotation at those positions, but how the snaps are divided will be a big question.

The week-to-week matchup may determine how Dan Quinn deploys his linebacker group. Leighton Vander Esch, Jaylon Smith, and Micah Parsons have been getting good reviews from training camp. Throw in Keanu, Neal, and the Cowboys have four linebackers that will allow them to use in specific situations. Given the injury history of three of the primary players at the position, it might be a good idea to figure out a rotation that keeps them healthy for the new 17-game schedule.

In the secondary, despite the numbers, the Cowboys added two defensive backs in the last week. Safety Malik Hooker and Cornerback Kyron Brown.

They join a group that was already very deep, but no sure answers outside of Trevon Diggs at cornerback and Donovan Wilson at safety. If anything, the waters at defensive back got murkier. Thankfully, the Dallas Cowboys still have many training camp and four preseason games to help clear the muddy waters.

Though Anthony Brown and Jourdan Lewis are the current favorites to start alongside Trevon Diggs, the competition will sort through how the Dallas Cowboys defensive staff will deploy their defensive backs.
