While last night’s playoff win for the Dallas Cowboys has left us euphoric, we can’t forget the unfortunate injury to Wide Receiver Allen Hurns. The veteran went down with a dislocated ankle, which the cameras caught with nauseating clarity, and had to be carted off the field.
Early this morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted out an update on Hurns’ status:
Cowboys’ WR Allen Hurns already has undergone surgery on his dislocated ankle injury that ended his season, per source. As difficult as the injury was to see, Hurns is expected to be ready to return to football by August if there no complications or anything out of the ordinary.

Indeed, Hurns’ season is over for the 2018 Cowboys. He should move to injured reserve shortly, opening up a roster spot.
With WR Tavon Austin also struggling with a nagging injury, it’s likely that Dallas will call up Lance Lenoir from the practice squad. He is also capable of being a return man on special teams, which Austin did spectacularly last night.
As for Hurns, he is under contract for 2019 but at a price that may be difficult for the Cowboys to pay. He is scheduled to count $6.25 million against the salary cap, which is tough for a player who is currently fourth on the WR depth chart.
We’ll have to wait and see how Hurns’ recovery affects that decision.
But the time to talk business isn’t now. After the game, Hurns’ teammates wasted no time expressing their love and support.
Y’all pray for my brother @A1hurns ❗️Love you big dog! #BigHurns

We here at the Inside The Star join in the wishes for a speedy and full recovery for Allen Hurns, and we have no doubt that all of Cowboys Nation shares in that sentiment.
