Blake Jarwin a Participant in Team Drills as Cowboys Training Camp Opens

One of the lingering questions remaining from Dallas Cowboys minicamp and OTAs was Tight End Blake Jarwin. Jarwin, who is recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in week one of 2020, did not work in team drills during the Cowboys Spring practices but looks to be a full participant as the Dallas Cowboys being their preparations for the 2021 season in Oxnard, California.

Working with the first team in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills on Thursday, Jarwin was targeted frequently by quarterback Dak Prescott. In the video below provided by David Helman of DallasCowboys.com, you can see Jarwin make a reception with Trevon Diggs in coverage.

It remains to be seen how the Cowboys will delineate the tight end snaps between Jarwin and 2020’s leader at the position, Dalton Schultz. However, it looks like Jarwin will once again be a huge part of the plan with the offense.

After a breakout end to the 2018 season, Jarwin played behind Jason Witten in 2019 before earning the starting role heading into 2020. The injury was one of many disappointing injuries for the Dallas Cowboys as they limped their way to a 6-10 finish in 2020.

Now healthy and 10 months removed from his ACL injury, Jarwin should have a huge impact in Kellen Moore’s passing offense. His athleticism and ability to make plays after the catch provides him an opportunity to make big plays in the passing game despite being fourth or fifth in the pecking order.

If Jarwin’s able to get back to where he was before the injury, count him as yet another explosive weapon that Dak Prescott has at his disposal heading into what could be an MVP season for the Cowboys’ quarterback. With Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, and Michael Gallup at wide receiver and Ezekiel Elliott at running back, defenses won’t be paying much attention to Blake Jarwin. However, it won’t take long for opposing defensive coordinators to realize they’ll have to account for Jarwin in the passing game as well.
