The Dallas Cowboys were hit with awful news Monday morning, as they learned starting cornerback Jourdan Lewis’ season is over with a foot injury. According to ESPN reporter Todd Archer, Lewis suffered a lisfranc foot injury during his interception in the fourth quarter, and he had surgery last night.

His injury is a huge blow to the Cowboys’ secondary, as Lewis was one of the team’s most reliable defenders. As Archer mentioned, DaRon Bland replaced Lewis earlier in the season, and he will likely get the first dibs to start.
If the team isn’t confident in Bland, you could see the team shuffle CB Anthony Brown to the inside and move CB Kelvin Joseph to Browns’ spot or look for outside help via trade and free agency.
In an article written by Pro Football Talk that discusses which players are in trade rumors, a player the Cowboys could target is Washington Commanders CB William Jackson III. While the odds of the Commanders trading one of their players to a division rival is small, you never know what could happen in the NFL.
Another player they could target in the trade market is Seattle Seahawks cornerback Sidney Jones, who ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler reported was available in his NFL Trade deadline story.
Shifting to free agency, some players they could sign to fill Lewis’ void include: A.J. Bouye, Joe Haden, Chris Harris, Janoris Jenkins, Jimmy Smith, Kevin King, and Xavier Rhodes.
Although Lewis’ injury comes at an unfortunate time, as the Cowboys were starting to evolve weekly into a borderline, elite defensive unit, I wouldn’t sleep on Bland.
Bland has the length and speed that DC Dan Quinn likes, and he’s a ball-hawk. Plus, many people were predicting early on that Bland would start over Lewis this season.
But like they say, “next man up,” and we hope Lewis has a successful recovery.
