BREAKING: Cowboys Add To Wide Receiver Room With James Washington

At the conclusion of the 2021 season, wide receiver was the strongest position group on the Cowboys roster. With star players in Ceedee Lamb and Amari Cooper playing next to quality role players in Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson, the Cowboys appeared set. That was until the 2022 off-season. Cooper is now in Cleveland by way of trade and Wilson signed a new contract with the Miami Dolphins.

As such, the Cowboys were hurting for depth at the wide receiver position. With many options available in free agency getting snatched up, Dallas certainly had to act quickly. Eventually, they settled on former Pittsburgh Steelers draft selection, James Washington. A Texas native who played college football for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, this will be a homecoming of sorts for the young wideout.

Washington is a high upside addition

A second-round pick of the Steelers back in 2018, Washington has had an up and down career thus far. With 1,629 career receiving yards and eleven touchdowns, he had easily his best season back in 2019. With 735 yards receiving and three touchdowns, he displayed the downfield play-making ability he showcased at Oklahoma State.

For Dallas, he will have a role right away. A great compliment to the all-around ability of Lamb and the physical skill set of Gallup, his talents will be valuable and necessary instantly. While he never seemed to fully find his footing in Pittsburgh, the Cowboys will hope his best football is still ahead of him.
