After missing three of four field goals over the last two weeks, Kicker Brett Maher has been waived by the Dallas Cowboys. They have signed veteran Kai Forbath to replace him following a workout earlier today.
Maher was already one of the NFL’s least accurate kickers before Week 13 but has been especially bad during these last two Cowboys losses. He is currently ranked 30th with just a 66.7% field goal percentage.
The #Cowboys have released kicker Brett Maher and signed veteran FA K Kai Forbath, the team announced. A necessary change.

32-year-old Kai Forbath was available after playing in just a single game for the New England Patriots back in Week 13. He made his only FG attempt from 23 yards but went 1-3 on extra points.
Forbath’s last full season was in 2017 for the Minnesota Vikings. He made 32 out of 38 field goals, which included going 6-of-9 from 50 yards or more.
This is actually Kai’s second run in Dallas. He was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2011 but wound up injured, which opened the door for fellow rookie Dan Bailey to claim the kicking job.
As for Brett Maher, so ends one of the weirdest runs for a kicker that I’ve ever seen. Maher could do amazing things with his big leg but was just too much of a liability from even the shortest distances. He ended up leaving more points on the field than on the scoreboard.
Hopefully, Kai Forbath can turn things around.
