BREAKING: Dallas Cowboys Sign DL Christian Covington

The Dallas Cowboys finally got on the free agency board this afternoon, signing defensive tackle Christian Covington to a 1 year deal.

The former sixth round pick spent his last four NFL seasons with the Houston Texans, and had his best year in 2018 while racking up 3.5 sacks in 12 games. Covington is only 25 years old and joins Tyrone Crawford as a Canadian defensive linemen on the Dallas Cowboys.

Covington will likely fit in as a 1-technique in the Cowboys defensive scheme, and will battle for a spot at that position in their defensive line rotation.

Covington serves as solid depth with upside on the interior, as the Cowboys look to plug holes prior to the 2019 NFL Draft. I wouldn’t expect a Pro Bowl season from Christian Covington, but this is a good signing to improve that depth on the inside.
