BUF 26, DAL 15: Cowboys Blow Early Lead, Fall to 6-6

The Dallas Cowboys still can’t beat good teams, and apparently not even average ones. Jason Garrett’s crew was once again outclassed with a 26-15 loss to the Buffalo Bills, and again the loss felt more due to Dallas’ errors than anything their opponent did.

Two offensive turnovers and two missed field goals marked this one. The Cowboys had more first downs and offensive yards than Buffalo but played the sloppier game, and those critical misses and mistakes made all the difference.

Dak Prescott threw for 355 yards and two touchdowns but also had an interception and a lost fumble. Brett Maher missed two FG attempts from 35 and 47 yards.

Along with these big plays was an overall poor defensive effort. The Bills ran for 124 total yards, 43 of which belonged to QB Josh Allen. He also had 231 passing yards and a touchdown.

Former Cowboys WR Cole Beasley had a nice revenge game; six catches for 110 yards and a touchdown in his return to Dallas.

It was a bad effort across the board. Once again, the Cowboys looked unprepared and unable to execute consistently on either side of the ball.

The loss drops Dallas to 6-6 on the year, though still clinging to the lead in the NFC East. Even if the Philadelphia Eagles win this week, they will still be just 6-6 themselves and the Cowboys will maintain their lead thanks to the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Other Notes

  • Ezekel Elliott has a productive day with 71 rushing yards and 66 receiving. Had the team not fallen behind early, Zeke had a much bigger day in the works.
  • Amari Cooper bounced back from last week’s shutout with eight catches for 85 yards.
  • If today’s loss wasn’t bad enough for the division race, the Eagles are on the road this Sunday against the Miami Dolphin Tanks.
  • Dallas will be back next Thursday with a road game against the Chicago Bears. This hasn’t been a strong year for Chicago, but can you really feel good about the Cowboys’ chances after what we just watched?
  • Yes, I’m upset.
