Can the Cowboys make the Playoffs in 2020?

The 2018 season was one of success for the Dallas Cowboys but the joy did not extend into the 2019 campaign. The Cowboys finished 2019 with an 8-8 record and they are a team that struggles to reach the playoffs in consecutive seasons. You must go back to 2007 to find the last time the Dallas Cowboys reached the playoffs for the second consecutive season. 2020 could be a big year for the team, but do they have what it takes to make a return to the playoffs?

It may seem like a strange reason to back the Cowboys to make the 2020 playoffs but they have a habit of doing so in every other season. Therefore, having not made the playoffs in 2019 despite making a strong start, the Cowboys could continue their recent trend of qualifying every other season and do so in 2020.

The alternating run has continued since 2014 and it would not be a surprise to see it happen again in 2020.

However, it is not enough to base a prediction on the trend highlighted above, there must be football reasons attached. One of which is the addition of new Head Coach Mike McCarthy. He knows what it takes to win a Super Bowl, having done so with the Green Bay Packers concluding the 2010 season.

McCarthy enjoyed a long spell with the Packers but did not pick up a team in 2019 following an interview with the New York Jets.

McCarthy is known for building great quarterbacks and is only going to improve the already outstanding Dak Prescott. There is every possibility Prescott could develop into a league MVP and there is no doubting the quality of the Cowboys current offensive line-up. McCarthy has the ability to bring out the best in the likes of Ezekiel Elliott, Tony Pollard, Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and Blake Jarwin.

If you are considering placing a wager on the Dallas Cowboys this season, you can use the SugarHouse sports betting app. You can find out more about this tremendous sports betting app at Gamble USA but you are guaranteed great NFL odds, a huge choice of markets, and the opportunity to take advantage of special offers throughout the NFL season.

Another reason why this could be the year the Cowboys make the playoffs is due to the experience of the defense.

The defensive unit was way below its best during the 2019 season but you only have to look at the 2018 campaign to see just how good it can be for the Cowboys. The majority of the defensive players in the team played throughout the good 2018 season including DeMarcus Lawrence, Tyrone Crawford, Jaylon Smith, Leighton Vander Esch, Jourdan Lewis, Xavier Woods, Anthony Brown, and Chidobe Awuzie.

Mike Nolan has been added to the coaching staff as the Defensive Coordinator and will be bringing plenty of new ideas. Perhaps this is why they opted to draft Wide Receiver CeeDee Lamb as opposed to defensive reinforcements.

The Dallas Cowboys look to be a team capable of reaching the playoffs in 2020.
