Can the Cowboys steal the #1 playoff seed?

At this time, the Dallas Cowboys are the number 5 seed in this NFL season’s playoff picture. The funny thing is, the Cowboys have the third-best record in the NFC conference, so a question appears. Can the Cowboys steal the #1 playoff seed?

While some fans would say it’s almost impossible, that’s not all true. The Cowboys have been playing amazingly all season (besides the Tampa Bay game). The first step in securing the #1 seed is to keep playing this way throughout the rest of the season. I believe that the Cowboys can go 8-1 the rest of the season, giving them a record of 14-3.

The next big step is having the Philadelphia Eagles lose. The Cowboys are going to have to be one of their losses. If the Eagles lose 3-4 games (including one against the Cowboys), that gives Dallas a clear shot to take the division.

It’s also worth mentioning that another one of those losses for the Eagles will have to be another NFC East team. With the way the New York Giants have been playing, I have a feeling they will defeat the Eagles at least once.

At this point in the NFL season, it’s coming down to one rule: “Whoever controls the NFC East will gain the #1 seed.” The division is so good this year that unless all hell breaks loose within the division, one of the teams will win the NFC altogether.

So far we need the Cowboys to go 8-1 or 7-2 for the rest of the year, then we need the Eagles to lose about 4 games (one to the Cowboys and another to Giants or Commanders.) What else? It’s time to focus on a team outside the NFC East, the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings have a rare 7-1 record this year as their Quarterback Kirk Cousins has been leading them the way in this unusual year for them. So what needs to happen to them for the Cowboys to take the top spot?

For one, the Cowboys are going to have to defeat them. Yep, that’s right, the Vikings and Cowboys will be playing on November 20th at the Vikings stadium. Shouldn’t be too big of a problem as you may think though. Many NFL fans think the Vikings are frauds and are due for a couple of losses.

I disagree and think the Vikings are a legit good team this year, So it’s tough to say who will win that upcoming game. Back to the main point though, the Vikings will have to lose to the Cowboys and another team or two for this all to happen.

So quick recap of what must go down in the second half of this NFL season.

  1. Cowboys keep playing hard and finish the season with a 14-3 or 13-4 record.
  2. The Eagles lose 4 games. One of those is against the Cowboys and another against Giants or Commanders.
  3. Vikings must lose to the Cowboys and one or two other teams before the end of the season.

That sums it up right there. It is a bit of a difficult path, but it’s more possible than some may think. No matter what seed the Cowboys do end up getting, it’s safe to say that Dallas has a well-put-together team this year that could scare some other playoff teams this postseason.
