CeeDee Lamb contract extension on the horizon for the Cowboys?

With all the NFL draft coverage we have dove into over the last month or so, a nice change of pace would be to address the recent comments about CeeDee Lamb regarding a possible extension.

After the Cowboys traded Amari Cooper to Cleveland last year, we all wondered if Lamb could emerge as a true No. 1 wide receiver for Dallas.

Well, he answered all of our questions. He proved his worth and balled out last year.

He has set himself up for a payday, and Stephen Jones knows Lamb has become a priority for them to sign long-term.

Jones said on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday that representatives for wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and cornerback Trevon Diggs could be the next two players with the star on their helmets to receive extensions.

“As we move forward, that’ll become a bigger priority here as we move past the draft,” Jones said. “But guys like CeeDee Lamb and Diggs are certainly on our radar in terms of guys that we’d love to have around here for another five, six years, whatever that turns out to be.”

Diggs is a part of this, but I want to focus more on Lamb.

The Cowboys can exercise an option on Lamb’s contract for the 2024 season, but Diggs was a second-round pick in 2020 and is heading into the final year of his deal.

I found some comments from former NFL executive and current analyst Michael Lombardi funny. He said he doesn’t think Lamb is a No. 1 receiver but a “really good player.”

He mentioned guys like Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams are players that make you sweat when preparing for them on the drive to the stadium on game day.

I understand, but you can’t tell me Lamb isn’t a No. 1 guy after what he showed last year.

The next move the Cowboys should make is signing Lamb; we know what he could do a season ago with little help from others.

Now with Brandin Cooks, a guy who is a walking 100-yard wide receiver in the mix, and hopefully a 100% healthy Michael Gallup. Lookout.

We should see Dallas take a wide receiver in next week’s draft. It shouldn’t be at pick 26 but in the second or third round.

What was once a major concern last season now seems like one of the best groups they have on the team.

Finishing with 107 catches for 1359 and nine touchdowns in 2022, I think Lamb gets close to the 1,500-yard mark and has his first-ever double-digit touchdown receptions in 2023.

Dak Prescott has already been raving about Cooks and how much speed he brings. If that is the case, he should open the field for Lamb to make plays inside and outside the numbers.

I am pretty hyped about this team in 2023. A lot more than I was a season ago, mainly because of the offense. With Dan Quinn and that defense bringing everyone back, plus a year for Lamb to earn some money.

This team is going to be fun.
