Cole Beasley’s Just Too Saucy for the New York Giants, Again

Wide Receiver Cole Beasley’s game clinching touchdown catch against the division rival New York Giants is exactly the kind of momentum builder Head Coach Jason Garrett had envisioned for the Dallas Cowboys before entering into the playoffs. Well maybe not, but it was the perfect way to close out the 2018 regular-season and couldn’t have been scripted any better.

Facing a fourth and long with just a little over a minute left in the game, it was looking as if the Giants were going to pull off the upset against the Cowboys Sunday afternoon. But as luck would have it, Quarterback Dak Prescott threw up a prayer into the back of the end zone that fittingly fell right into the outstretched hands of Cole Beasley for the touchdown. It was a clutch catch, from a clutch receiver.

Cole Beasley’s Knee Tap TD Catch

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched and re-watched this one play and still find myself amazed at Beasley’s body control and concentration to get his knee down inbounds to complete the catch. This might’ve been the best catch we’ve seen from any receiver all season.

As a fan of Cole Beasley, I wasn’t at all surprised to see him make such a catch though. He’s always ready when the ball goes his direction, but he seems more so when he’s playing against the Giants. In fact, two of the best catches in his career came against the G-men.

You may have forgotten, but it was just a little over a year ago when Beasley had a phenomenal behind the back catch against the Giants in the Week 1 of the 2017 season. His hair was much longer then, but he once again came up clutch on a key third-down completion.

This one play really epitomizes what Cole Beasley is as a receiver and how important he is to the Cowboys offense. His body control, catch radius, precision route running, concentration, and awareness were on full display here. It was an important third-down conversion, a situation that typically involves #11 because of his reliability.

Unfortunately, we may not see many more plays like this from Beasley with the Dallas Cowboys for much longer. However far the Cowboys make it in the playoffs could be the only games he has left with the organization.

You see, he is set to become a free agent after this season and there are no guarantees he will be back with the Cowboys next year. I’d personally do everything within my power to extend his contract as long as his asking price isn’t unreasonable, but I’m not the one making the decisions.

The Cowboys have chosen to go younger/cheaper here recently, which further clouds Beasley’s future in Dallas. He is a little limited in what he can do as a receiver, but there may not be a better slot man who works the short to intermediate parts the field.

I don’t know where you stand, but I know I’m going to be keeping a close watchful eye on what the Dallas Cowboys decide to do with Cole Beasley. He is after all the last remaining starter hanging on from the 2017 season and Tony Romo era.
