Cooper Rush vs Jalen Hurts: Compare and Contrast

With the game of the year for the Dallas Cowboys coming up quickly, it’s a good time to look at the quarterback match-up that will be taking place. Cooper Rush will be taking on Jalen Hurts in a battle of the undefeated. But the Cowboys aren’t undefeated, they are 4-1. However Cooper Rush is. As a matter of fact, he’s never lost a game when he’s been the starter, making him 5-0, just like Jalen Hurts is this year. More drama added to the game, I love it.

Comparing the two quarterbacks, Rush and Hurts both get the ball off quickly. From the time when it’s snapped to the time when it’s thrown is very small, which makes getting sacked less likely. Jalen Hurts always tries to get rid of the ball fast and doesn’t normally get sacked in the pocket.

Yes I know Hurts has been sacked a total of 11 times this season, but most of those were from scrambling with the ball. Which brings up a difference between each one.

Rush hates to scramble, and for good reason too. A quarterback isn’t supposed to scramble a lot. I mean, look at Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. You don’t often see those guys scrambling with the ball, yet they are some of the most talented QBs in the game. While Jalen, on the other hand, scrambles like crazy.

This can be good or bad for some plays. If there’s an opening on the field that will allow the QB to get a large number of yards, then the quarterback should take off running. Sometimes though, it’s better to focus on doing your job which is throwing the ball to your receivers.

Another comparison is the leadership qualities that Hurts and Rush share. When each quarterback is on the field, their team’s offense will look sharp and content in the game. You are not gonna see any of those players distracted or playing poorly.

To get more detailed about why each QB has good leadership, we can look at how the offense performs as a whole. We all know the Eagles are on top of the world right now and have an explosive offense. Hurts knows there’s one goal, and that’s to get a touchdown without risking a turnover.

Same with Rush, which is another comparison they have. Rush has yet to turn the ball over this season, while Jalen has only turned it over twice this year off of interceptions (he has fumbled it a couple of times as well). Either way, each QB is very talented at converting plays without having turnovers happen.

Finally, a difference they share is the big plays converted. Everyone knows Rush doesn’t like to throw long, while Hurts tries to make every play a 40+ yard pass or run. It’s tough to say if it’s better to take each drive too slow like Rush does, or try to go deep most plays as Hurts does.

Going slow and steady while not risking picks can be the correct choice in some games, but in others, perhaps not. Without contest, they are both different in that category by quite a bit.

This should be an exciting QB match-up this Sunday. Can’t wait to see which quarterback will come out of this match-up undefeated.
