The NFL announced on Thursday that teams will be allowed to wear throwback helmets once again with their alternate jerseys, starting in 2022. The league previously did not allow alternate helmets due to safety precautions, forcing most teams to put their fan-favorite alternates aside as opposed to wearing a mismatched uniform.
NFL approved alternate helmets today for teams wearing throwback uniforms starting in 2022, per league sources. This opens the door to the defending world-champion Bucs wearing the old white helmets with the orange swashbuckling Buccaneer as early as 2022.

The Cowboys are still known for their clean white jersey and silver helmet of course, but the blue tops and white helmet they’ve previously worn on Thanksgiving gives Dallas a signature look to wear when they’re the only team on TV at the time.
The Cowboys wore their color rush uniforms last season for Thanksgiving, giving them a similar jersey look with the stars on the shoulders – although smaller, and still with the normal helmet. The last time their true throwbacks made an appearance was Thanksgiving 2012, a game the Cowboys lost to the Redskins 38-31.

Since this rule won’t be in effect for the upcoming season, the Cowboys will miss potential throwback match ups against the Buccaneers to kickoff the season with Tampa in orange, New England in the more vibrant red, white, and blue, or Denver in the orange jerseys with sharp blue helmets. Knowing only their divisional schedule for 2022, longtime NFC East fans can begin to dream about the Cowboys wearing white helmets against the Eagles in Kelly green or New York with “Giants” written across a darker blue helmet.
To be clear, clubs must inform @nfl345 of their intent to use an alternate color helmet for the 2022 season by no later than July 31. This is not for '21 season.

The Cowboys along with the rest of the league will have to submit their plans to wear any alternate helmets by this July 31st, something that can only add to their creativity from previous years with the road blues at home, traditional color rush, or standard blue jersey with white color rush pants (how you doing, seafoam fans?).
