I know this will generate a lot of conversation, but the the Dallas Cowboys are committed to quarterback Dak Prescott.
Even though the season ended as the worst of Prescotts career, Stephen Jones reaffirmed their commitment to No. 4 and potentially extending the quarterback in the offseason.
Doing so would actually benefit the Cowboys in terms of money. We have to understand this.
The Cowboys are 61-36 with Prescott as their starter since he joined the team as a fourth-round pick back in 2016.
Prescott has two years left on the four-year, $160 million contract he signed in 2021.
Because Prescott has a $49 million cap hit in 2023, the Cowboys could consider a contract extension for him to lower the number. Doing so would clear room to sign other players.
They would add four to five years to his current deal. Pay him a huge signing bonus and knock down his 2023 base salary.
The Cowboys seem fully committed to Dak Prescott for many years to come. Stephen Jones said Dak could be the QB in Dallas for the “next 10 years.” Basically saying he’s going to be here and they would be open to extending his deal which would lower his current cap hit.

This would allow them to do whatever they would want. instead of extending Prescott, they could restructure his contract again and free up about $22 million in room but be left with a ton of dead money in 2025 after his contract expires.
We can say whatever we want when it comes to Prescott. This franchise hasn’t won a thing in 25 years. It’s not just his fault. It’s a Jerry Jones problem.

He cares more about talking to the media than he does winning. I’ve seen 4 playoff wins in my lifetime, brutal.
For all the folks that want to replace Prescott, who would you like to add to the rotation? You can’t get anyone right now that will be better than Prescott. If you do, you’ll be paying the same price.
Mike McCarthy is going to call plays next year. This could be a make or break season for him. If the offense is inconsistent like last year, he will be done.
If this team gets another weapon on the outside, Dallas has a strong chance to compete for the top seed next season.
With all that being said, Jerry Jones hasn’t ruled out the chance of drafting a young guy to play backup to Prescott.
Although I don’t know who may slip to them in the later rounds, I’m sure the Cowboys will pull the trigger on another QB.
Kyler Murray hasn’t won a playoff game. He make more money than Prescott. Lamar Jackson is 1-3 in playoff games. A player we all expect to be one of the highest paid signal callers when next season rolls around.
Stephen Jones echoed that the top 10 to 12 quarterbacks across the league will earn more than $40 million this coming season.
He said Prescott “deserves to be in that number.”
All I’m saying is there is nobody around the league that you could replace Prescott with and get the same production.
This roster is bolstered to win now. Drafting a rookie quarterback like some people want to replace Prescott, makes zero sense.
Lets see what happens in the draft and this off-season before we continue this conversation.
