Cowboys DE/DT Kerry Hyder Continues to “Wreck em” in Preseason

Wreck em!“, is a phrase Dallas Cowboys new Defensive Lineman Kerry Hyder is very familiar with due to his collegiate days at Texas Tech University, but it’s also battle cry his teammates might want to make their own as well.

It’s okay if you don’t understand the “Wreck em” reference I mentioned above. I doubt many of  you follow the Texas Tech Red Raiders very closely for any kind of collegiate sports, let alone football, but it’s one of the universities mantras, much like “Hook em Horns” for the University of Texas Longhorns. It’s no different for nearly every other collegiate program in the nation. They all have their little catchphrases.

I really thought the “Wreck em” phrase/battle cry was kind of fitting though considering not only Kerry Hyder’s preseason play, but because of what we could see the Cowboys defensive line do in 2019 due to the talent they’ve put together this year. This is really shaping up to be the best group of “rush men” Defensive Coordinator Rod Marinelli has had the pleasure of leading into battle since arriving in Dallas.

But before we get into the immense potential the Dallas Cowboys have in their defensive line unit, let’s focus in on DE/DT Kerry Hyder because his preseason play has been one of the most pleasant surprises thus far. In fact, an argument could be made he’s been the most consistently dominant DL for the Cowboys through the first three preseason games.

You may not know who Kerry Hyder is or the position he plays on the field, but you’ve surely seen No. 51 making plays in opposing teams backfield if you’ve watched any of the Cowboys previous preseason games. It hasn’t mattered if Dallas lines him up at DE or DT, Hyder has been absolutely disruptive. Opposing offensive lineman have yet to find the answer as to how to slow him down.

Just last week against the Houston Texans he had two quarterbacks sacks, one as a DE and one as the under tackle, or the three-technique. And, that’s not even mentioning the other times he’s pressured the QB or made a tackle behind the line of scrimmage. He’s simply playing outstanding and is absolutely “Wrecking em”.

Did you see what I did there?

The Dallas Cowboys have a chance to be a truly outstanding defense and it starts up front in the trenches with their defensive line. Yes, DeMarcus Lawrence is the headliner, but I don’t think there’s a scrub player in the bunch. Marinelli should be able to put a rotation together the likes he has probably only dreamed about and the kind that gives opposing QBs nightmares.

No matter how things shake out once the final 53-man roster is finalized, the Dallas Cowboys are going to have a defensive front that should wreck shop in 2019. And if Kerry Hyder as any say in it, he will be a big part of the success. That “Wreck em” battle cry could become a mainstay with Dallas’ defensive line, or Hot Boyz as they like to call themselves.
