Cowboys draw 5 primetime games on official 2024 NFL schedule

The NFL officially released its 2024 schedule Wednesday night. The Dallas Cowboys have the 12th-toughest schedule for the season.

The league didn’t do them too many favors with where and when the Cowboys play in 2024 either.

Dallas will only play eight games on the road this season.

But they play three of their first games away from Texas. But will close the season with four of their final six games on the road.

The Cowboys dodged having to hit the road overseas this year.

Dallas will host the Giants on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28th. Oddly, both games against the Giants will fall on a Thursday this year.

The more notable games in 2024 are: hosting the Lions on Oct. 13th, a road game against the 49ers on Oct. 27th, and a Sunday night game.

Their first game against former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn at Washington is slated for late November.

Road Warriors

The Cowboys will hit the road to start the season on Sept. 8th. The will face the Cleveland Browns and former wide receiver Amari Cooper.

The afternoon game will be Tom Brady’s first game as an analyst for FOX Sports.

The Cowboys will be home the next two weeks, hosting the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 15th and then the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 22nd.

It will be the third visit to Dallas all-time by the Ravens. In 2016, the Cowboys won 27-17 at AT&T Stadium.

Baltimore’s first trip to Dallas was a 33-24 victory that closed out Texas Stadium’s run on 2008.

Dallas goes back on the road, with a short week at that, to play at the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football just four days later.

After a 10-day break, the Cowboys play their first October game on the 6th at the Pittsburgh Steelers. This game is the first of two Sunday night games scheduled for Dallas.

Unless there is a late season flex, which the NFL uses to moves more important games onto national television late in the year.

Home Sweet Home

The Cowboys will play five of the next eight games at AT&T Stadium. They also have their bye week fall during this stretch.

On Oct. 13th, Dallas will host the Lions, who will be spoiling to avenge what they see as a controversial loss to Dallas last year.

Then Dallas gets a bye week in Week 7. It will be the fourth time the Cowboys have had a Week 7 bye.

Then the Cowboys head west to face the 49ers on Sunday Night Football in Oct. 27th on Week 8.

Dallas has not beaten San Francisco since 2020. Their last win at the 49ers came in 2017.

The Cowboys will be looking to avenge back-to-back playoff losses – as well as 42-10 drubbing last year.

Dallas stays on the road and faces the Atlanta Falcons the following week before hosting Philadelphia on Nov. 10th in Week 10.

The Houston Texans arrive for a Monday Night game on Nov. 18th.

The Cowboys will then head for a Nov. 24th meeting with the Commanders and Dan Quinn.

It will be their first game against Dan Quinn as an opposing head coach since a 40-39 Dallas win on Sept. 20, 2020, in the second game of the year.

The Cowboys rallied back from a 39-24 deficit at AT&T Stadium for the win. Quinn was fired by Falcons after starting 0-5 for the season.

After four days, they host the Giants on Thanksgiving Day. And get a much-needed 11-day break.

Down The Stretch

Dallas returns to action with a Monday night game at home against Cincinnati.

Dallas then travels to Carolina on Dec. 15th. Then they play host to Tampa Bay on Dec. 22nd.

The Cowboys regular season road finale falls on Dec. 29th at the Eagles. Their regular season finale – and final home game – will be against the Commanders on Jan. 5th.

A detailed breakdown of the Cowboys 2024 opponents – in the order of appearance – will begin here next week.
