As we stand, it sounds like Cooper Rush will lead the Cowboys for at least the next six weeks after the injury to Dak Prescott. Those close to the team have indicated Dallas will look to sign someone by the end of the day. Mike McCarthy told reporters he has had several discussions with Jerry and Stephen Jones about adding a third quarterback to the roster.
At this point, I don’t think the guy brought in will be anything other than a body. Rush is going to be the player they roll with until Prescott gets back, and if he plays awful, then maybe they will move to Will Grier. You could flip a coin for those two guys, and hopefully, you catch them on a decent day and get some production, but with the news on the way, who will be the QB that is brought in to round out the room for the next two months?

Do the Cowboys bring back Ben DiNucci, who in his only start went 21-for-40 and 180 yards in a 23-9 loss? Or do they look elsewhere? Jimmy Garappolo has a no-trade clause, and he can go wherever he wants to go. With that said, he just made the NFC title game a year ago with the 49ers, so even though he lost his job to Trey Lance, I don’t think he would want to come to the situation that would await him Dallas.

Josh Johnson could be claimed off the Broncos practice squad, and Cam Newton and Mike Glennon are unsigned. I don’t think Dallas goes via trade to bring in another QB; it would be to sign someone that is either a FA or off a team’s practice squad. A guy like Ryan Fitzpatrick could come out of retirement, but to be a QB3 seems pretty far-fetched. From all the reports as of early Tuesday, it sounds like they will add one to the mix, but it will be Rush and Grier moving forward for the time being. That time could be short if the 28-year-old from Central Michigan struggles with the offense that does not look like it will get it together; I hope he possibly gets Michael Gallup back to help. Rush did win his only career NFL start a season ago on the road against the Vikings, but to ask him to hold down the fort for at least six weeks is tough. We shall see what happens; the players have said they will rally around Rush and that the offense does not have to change that much with him taking over, but look for a QB3 to be signed soon.
