Cowboys looking to extend Week 11 dominance today

The 11th week of the NFL season is quickly becoming a favorite of the Dallas Cowboys.

From 2005 through last year, with a pair of bye weeks mixed in, Dallas is 14-2 in Week 11 games.

The Cowboys are 33-26-2 overall in Week 11 contests. The two ties in Week 11 match the total number of ties in Week 5 games for the Cowboys.

Dallas has had just six games end in a tie over its 64 seasons overall.

The other two ties came in Week 1 (1962) and Week 10 (1961). Both of those ties were against Washington.

The Week 5 ties were against the Giants (1964) and Cardinals (1966). The two Week 11 ties came in 1960 against the Giants and 1969 against the 49ers.

The 24-24 tie with San Francisco on Thanksgiving Day at the Cotton Bowl was the last time Dallas ended a game in a tie.

Craig Morton
Craig Morton started at quarterback for the Cowboys against the 49ers on Thanksgiving Day in 1969.

They are the only team without a tie game finish since the NFL-AFL merger.

Dallas is 16-10-1 at home in Week 11 contests. They are just 17-16-1 on the road.

The two Week 11 bye weeks came in 2013 and 2014.

In both of those seasons, their Week 12 contest was on the road and resulted in wins over the Giants.

Early Week 11 Woes

Dallas played its first seven Week 11 games away from the Cotton Bowl. They went 1-5-1 in those contests.

A tie at New York in 1960 was followed by five straight road losses.

The Cowboys’ first Week 11 victory came in 1966 at Pittsburgh. Dallas beat St. Louis at the Cotton Bowl in 1967 then downed the Bears in Chicago in 1968.

Dallas’ last two Week 11 games at the Cotton Bowl were the tie with the 49ers in 1969 and then a victory over the Packers in 1970.

The Cowboys won their first Week 11 game at Texas Stadium in 1971 against the Rams.

They would win their last Week 11 game played at Texas Stadium in 2007 over the Redskins.

Dallas’ first Week 11 game at AT&T Stadium would also be a win over the Redskins in 2009.

Prior to the 14-2 run that began in 2005, the Cowboys did not enjoy much success in the 11th week. Dallas was just 19-24-2 between 1960-2004.

Prior to 2005, Dallas enjoyed a pair of three-game win streaks – 1966-68 and 1996-98 – and just three occurrences of winning back-to-back Week 11 games.

In addition to the five-game losing streak in the 1960s, the Cowboys lost four straight from 2001-2004.

Dallas enjoyed a 10-game winning streak from 2005-2016. The streak ended at home against the Eagles in 2017.

The Cowboys won three straight following the loss before falling on the road to the Chiefs in 2021.

Dallas defeated Minnesota last year on the road in Week 11. Sunday’s game will be the Cowboys’ sixth-straight Week 11 road game.

Their longest streak of Week 11 home games was from 1969-1973 and they went 2-3 in those contests.

Against The Panthers

The Cowboys have never faced Carolina in a Week 11 contest.

Dallas is 10-5 overall against the Panthers but just 0-2 in playoff meetings.

Both playoff losses were at Carolina, where Sunday’s game is being played.
