Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott has identified exciting rookie prospect Deuce Vaughn as the guy that will immediately improve the team’s offense.
Running Back Vaughn was drafted in the sixth round of April’s 2023 NFL Draft and was the 212th overall pick while Prescott himself was drafted in the fourth round.
He was one of seven picks from the April draft, joining Mazi Smith, Luke Schoonmaker, DeMarvion Overshown, Viliami Fehoko, Eric Scott Jr., and Jalen Brooks.
Vaughn is the son of Chris Vaughn who is the chief scout for the Cowboys and has been working for the franchise since 2017.
Prior to being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, RB Vaughn spent three years in college at Kansas State University.
Positive Impact
Dak Prescott believes that the new pick is no gamble and will have an immediate positive impact on the team.
Speaking to Sportsradio 96.7 FM, via the Dallas Morning News, Prescott outlined just why he is so excited to be working with Vaughn in what will be the running back’s rookie season in the NFL.
“That was one that you do get excited about when you see that story,” Prescott said when asked about Vaughn. “Understanding going into it knowing who he was, knowing his dad, thinking how cool that would be if you could make that happen.
“I did pay attention enough that he was there in the [sixth] round or something, was like how is he still there? Seeing that, seeing that reaction, just knowing how great of a guy Chris, who is the father, is. I’m excited about Deuce being in there. I think he’s going to be a very talented player who can help us immediately.”
Prescott also has experience being a late-rounder in the NFL Draft as back in 2016 the 29-year-old was picked at number 135 in the fourth round.
The Cowboys’ QB Prescott went on to reference his own experience of being a late-rounder in the NFL Draft but does not think that where players are selected in the draft actually has too much of an impact on how they fare.
Cowboys Return?
Prescott also admitted that he was sad that his best friend Ezekiel Elliott had been let go by the Cowboys but that he was excited about his next opportunity.
The pair were drafted together in 2016 and there has been speculation suggesting that Elliott could return to the team on a reduced salary, but while the running back did make the offer while he was still under contract he got released anyway.
Last year Prescott signed a multiyear endorsement deal with a cryptocurrency firm that has an existing partnership with the Cowboys, “the first of its kind in football.”
