The Dallas Cowboys will likely be without backup safety and key special teams player Kavon Frazier after he suffered a pectoral injury in last night’s loss to the New Orleans Saints. The extent of the injury, and the length of Frazier’s absence, are not yet confirmed.

While Frazier has not been seen much on defense so far in 2019, he has been active every week and is one of the team’s best players on special teams coverage units.

If Frazier goes out, it exacerbates an existing issue with safety depth for the Cowboys.

Starter Xavier Woods returned last night from an ankle injury but then left the game late with what appeared to be an issue with his arm or shoulder. We’re still waiting for more information on the extent of this new problem, if any.

While Darian Thompson would start in Woods’ absence, Frazier is the only other experienced depth at safety. Rookie Donovan Wilson, who has yet to dress for a game this year, would have to step into Kavon’s role.

Hopefully, Xavier Woods is okay and mitigates the damage of losing Kavon Frazier. But if both players are going to miss time, the Cowboys may have to use Cornerback C.J. Goodwin as an emergency safety or look to free agency for some temporary relief.
