The Dallas Cowboys continue to invest in the offensive line, agreeing to terms today with veteran Cameron Erving. A former 1st-Round pick in 2015, Erving has spent the last three years with the Kansad City after starting his career in Cleveland.
Erving has 42 career starts at a variety of positions. While he entered the NFL as a guard, he played 2016 at center and has since been used at offensive tackle as well.
Cam Erving adds more experience and versatility to Cowboys’ offensive line. An option as swing tackle, he saw nearly 600 snaps at left tackle in 2019. Erving also logged 963 snaps at left guard the year prior, including the postseason.

It’s easy to see why the Cowboys would be interested given that resume. They not only need to find a new swing tackle after Cameron Fleming left in free agency, but there are still some question marks at center and guard as well.
Cam brings significant pedigree to this year’s position battles. The Florida State alum was drafted 19th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft, eights spots before Dallas took Byron Jones.
Erving does have a little history with the Cowboys. In 2016, he and former Dallas’ DT David Irving got into a scuffle in a Cleveland-Dallas game and got themselves ejected.
The Cowboys do already have plenty of in-house options for their offensive line vacancies. Depending on their vision for Cam, he could be battling Brandon Knight for the swing tackle job or Joe Looney, Connor McGovern, and rookie Tyler Biadasz for jobs on the interior line.
However it shakes out, Cameron Erving has a combination of talent and experience which will make him very competitive in the Cowboys’ 2020 training camp.
