After going down with a non-contact knee injury last night in Los Angeles, Tight End Blake Jarwin’s season is already over. It was confirmed that he has a torn ACL in the right knee and, after surgery, will not be returning to the Dallas Cowboys in 2020.
Jarwin joins Leighton Vander Esch as a casualty from last night’s game. Blake only got to play less than one half as Dallas’ new starting TE and had a single catch for 12 yards.

Dalton Schultz took over as the primary TE last night and with uninspiring results. He was targeted four times for just one 11-yard reception. Backup Blake Bell wasn’t used at all in the passing game.
Jarwin was expected to have a breakout year in the starting role, hopefully bringing some big-play ability to the TE position that Jason Witten hasn’t provided in his later years. But now Dallas will have to makes plans without Blake until 2021.
The Cowboys were reportedly pleased with how Schultz performed in training camp, which is part of how he ascended to the backup job. Dallas may see how he responds this week if given a chance to work as the starter in practice and play against the Falcons next Sunday.
However, now that we’re into Week 2, veteran free agents can be signed without guaranteeing their salaries. Could that lead the Cowboys to call up Delanie Walker, Charles Clay, or some other experienced tight end to help the offense?
With many needs to address, this could be a busy week as Dallas tweaks the roster and regroups following last night’s issues.
