After two years of waiting, Washington’s finally decided on a new name for its football team. They are now known as the Commanders effective immediately, beginning a new era in their longstanding rivalry with the Dallas Cowboys and the rest of the NFC East.
Two years ago, decades of public backlash regarding the name “Redskins” led to Washington finally discarding it’s historic moniker. They’ve operated the last two seasons as simply the Washington Football Team.
Washington will retain it’s tradition red and yellow as the primary team colors.

Dallas and Washington have been grouped together since 1961, only the Cowboys’ second season after becoming an NFL franchise. Though battles with the Eagles and Giants for division dominance have been more common in the modern era, it’s always nostalgic when the Cowboys cross paths with Washington.
Those games will now have a new marquee; Cowboys versus Commanders. But with Dan Snyder still running the show, hopefully Washington continues to have the same old results.
