The Dallas Cowboys have made five moves to satisfy today’s mandatory cutdown to 80 players. The most significant was waiving Kicker Lirim Hajrullahu, leaving Brett Maher as the only current candidate to handle the job in 2022.
Additionally, Dallas placed veteran TE Jeremy Sprinkle on injured reserve. They waived WR Jaquarii Robinson and CB Quandre Mosely, plus waived-injured LB Christian Sam.
If he clears waivers, Sam will revert to IR and his right will stay with the Cowboys.
Clearly, the biggest news here is that Hajrullahu is out and Brett Maher appears to be our kicker going forward. That could change depending on cuts throughout the league, but now Maher will resume his career in Dallas after a two-year absence.

If he hadn’t been injured I still didn’t expect Jeremy Sprinkle to make the roster. The young potential at TE is high right now with Jake Ferguson, Sean McKeon, and Peyton Hendershot all vying for jobs behind Dalton Schultz. Sprinkle is a veteran blocker without room to grow; better to invest in the youth.
The other departures were not surprising at all. We haven’t heard much from them during camp or preseason while other dark horses have emerged at their positions.
There will be plenty more cuts and other moves this week before the final cutdown day on August 30th. We’ll see how Friday night’s preseason finale affects those decisions, but Dallas must reduce from 80 to 53 players before the next deadline.
