Dak Prescott: “I’m A Cowboy And Couldn’t Be Happier”

When Dak Prescott got off to an extremely hot start to begin the 2019 season it appeared as if the Dallas Cowboys signal-caller would be locked up long-term. Owner Jerry Jones all but confirmed those thoughts by saying an extension was “imminent”. However, no deal ever came about and Prescott bet on himself, and he won.

He set career highs on yards (4,902) and touchdowns (30), ranking second and fourth league-wide in those categories. Once the offseason got underway the Cowboys placed the exclusive franchise tag on Prescott on March 16 to secure his services for 2020 while they tried to work out a long-term deal, which Prescott signed on June 22.

According to Patrik Walker of CBS Sports, the Cowboys’ latest offer to Prescott was for five years at $35 million annually and $106 million guaranteed, with a willingness to go up to $110 million if a fifth year was secured. Unfortunately, the July 15th deadline has now passed and Prescott will play under the tag for 31.4 million.

On Wednesday night, Prescott spoke with USA TODAY Sports about the current state of affairs.

“I’m a Cowboy and couldn’t be happier,” Prescott said. “I look forward to working along Coach McCarthy, the staff, and my teammates to be the best team we can be in pursuit to our goal of a Super Bowl.”

Now, Prescott will bet on himself again and look to secure an even bigger payday in 2021. That’s nothing new to him, though, as he explained to USA TODAY Sports back in January.

“Obviously, I want to win,” Prescott said. “I’m somebody that I’ve gambled on myself my whole life. That’s kind of what it is. I’ve been doubted and told people they’re wrong.

“When you’re playing out a situation, when you’re playing out a contract, there’s no different mindset than that.”

As Prescott continues to pursue his long-term financial security he’ll have more firepower than ever at his disposal. Ezekiel Elliott, who’s arguably the best running back in the NFL, will once again lead the rushing attack along with Tony Pollard. Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and rookie CeeDee Lamb will provide a lethal three-headed monster at wide receiver. Lastly, Blake Jarwin will finally get to see his potential reached as the new lead dog at the tight end position.

Expect another big year from Prescott in 2020.

I write dope stuff about the Dallas Cowboys and what not.
