With news of Kavon Frazier’s season-ending pectoral injury, the Dallas Cowboys are signing former Green Bay Packers Safety and second-round pick, Josh Jones. Currently, with only four safeties on the roster, the Cowboys could use another player that could contribute at free safety and on special teams. With Xavier Woods dealing with injuries the last couple of weeks, it makes sense to bring in a player that has started games in the NFL.

Per Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan in Dallas-Fort Worth and Cowboys Maven on SI.com, the Dallas Cowboys plan to sign Jones to the practice squad.
Though he didn’t start every week for the Packers he does come to the Dallas Cowboys with 12 games of starting experience in two years in Green Bay. He played in 29 of a possible 32 games over the first two years of his career and has recorded an interception, seven pass deflextions, three sacks, and seven tackles for loss.

After Woods and fellow starter Jeff Heath, the Dallas Cowboys don’t have any safety depth with any starting experience. Jones’ presence on the roster shouldn’t inhibit the Dallas Cowboys from activating and playing Donovan Wilson or Darian Thompson, but his presence gives them some insurance in the even that Wilson or Thompson aren’t prepared to be every-down safeties in the event of an injury to one of their starters.
As the Dallas Cowboys get ready to face the Green Bay Packers this week, Josh Jones can give them a little bit of insight into their personnel and scheme as the Cowboys get into their preparations.
