Harris only had 33 catches and three starts as a receiver during his four years in Dallas. However, he makes our list as one of the greatest special teams players to even wear The Star.
Not used much as a rookie, Dwayne emerged as one of the league’s best return men in 2012. Over the next three years he would earn multiple Player of the Week awards and became a true game-changer as a specialist.
Harris not only excelled at returning but also defending against them.
He became one of the “gunner” on coverage teams in 2013 and would lead the team in special teams tackles. He earned another Player of the Week award for a forced fumble in a win over the Giants.
Dwayne left the Cowboys in 2014 free agency as all-time leader in kickoff return average and second on punts.
The special teams success continued as a member of the Giants, with Harris making the Pro Bowl in 2016. He also had his best offensive season in New York in 2015, catching 36 balls for 396 yards and four touchdowns in a reserve role.
Every season in the NFL, late-round picks are told that they have to contribute on special teams if they want to make a roster. If you do it as well as Dwayne Harris, you can keep finding work for a decade.
