Dallas Cowboys Fall to 2nd in NFC East, can Reclaim Lead With Week 7 Win

The Dallas Cowboys have suddenly fallen from their perch atop the NFC East division after the Philadelphia Eagles Week 7 22-21 victory over the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football. The Cowboys however still have a chance to reclaim the divisional lead if they can somehow beat the Washington Football Team Sunday afternoon.

Current NFC East Divisional Standings

  1. Philadelphia Eagles 2-4-1
  2. Dallas Cowboys 2-4
  3. Washington Football Team 1-5
  4. New York Giants 1-6

A Week 7 victory for the Dallas Cowboys is anything but a sure thing. When the Cowboys and Washington play one another it’s always a slobber knocker type of game. I expect much of the same this week, despite how poorly both teams have been playing through the first six weeks of the 2020 season.

The Dallas Cowboys are unfortunately having to plug hole after pole due to injuries just to keep the ship from sinking already this season. Injuries have decimated their offensive line, lost them there starting QB, and caused a leaky secondary up to this point in the year. No doubt they are the walking wounded right now with little hope in sight.

If the Dallas Cowboys want to reclaim the top spot in the NFC East division and keep their playoff hopes alive, this Week 7 matchup with the Washington Football Team is a “must win”. The same can be said about next week’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles as well. To lose either or both will make them plummet in the divisional standings.

With all of that in mind, there’s a lot on the line for the Dallas Cowboys. Losing this week or next would all but seal their fate this year, however, a victory at the very least keeps hope alive. Of course in order to keep that hope alive they need to take care of business Sunday afternoon first against Washington. After that, your guess is as good as mine.

Do you think the Dallas Cowboys can reclaim the lead in the NFC East?
