Dallas Cowboys Offense Needs More From WR Randall Cobb

A lot of eyes will naturally gravitate towards Wide Receiver Randall Cobb this week with the Green Bay Packers next up on the Dallas Cowboys schedule. Cobb spent the first eight years of his NFL career with the Packers before joining the Cowboys this offseason as a free agent, making this Week 5 matchup a reunion of sorts.

I’m sure it will be a little odd for Randall Cobb with all the green playing opposite him now that he’s donning the blue and silver, but hopefully it’s the inspiration he needs to recapture some of the playmaking ability that made him a household name during his time in Green Bay. He’s only shown glimpses of it since arriving in Dallas, which is unfortunate considering his versatility and talent.

Sadly, from the outside looking in, it looks little as if Dak Prescott and Randall Cobb are struggling to connect with one another right now. The Cowboys are four games into the season, but a solid bond between Prescott and Cobb has yet to really materialize. Just look what happened between the two last week against the New Orleans Saints.

On the Cowboys second offensive series they had to settle for a Brett Maher field goal instead of a Randall Cobb touchdown because Dak Prescott threw the ball about a foot too far ahead of No. 18 in the back of the end zone. Then later in the game Prescott threw the ball behind Cobb when he was streaking across the field on 3rd and 2. Whether it’s poor communication, a trust issue, or lack of working together something needs to get worked out…and quickly.

Randall Cobb needs to step up his game this week with Michael Gallup still questionable to play against the Packers. We saw last week what happens when Amari Cooper is pretty much blanketed and taken out of the game plan. No one else stepped up to take advantage. That player has to be Cobb and what better team to do it against than his former one.

The Packers secondary of course might just be the best the Cowboys offense has seen thus far in 2019. Green Bay has invested quite a bit of equity in their defensive backs and it’s paid off for them so far this season. Their passing defense may be good, but the opposite can be said about their run defense.

The Packers have seen teams and gash them on the ground the last two weeks and can expect for the Cowboys to try to do the same. If they commit to trying to stop the running game that should open up the passing game where Randall Cobb and the rest of Dallas’ receivers come into play. Hopefully they better prepared this week and are ready to step up their game.

What do you think? Do the Dallas Cowboys need more from Randall Cobb?
