The Cowboys have re-signed veteran offensive lineman Joe Looney, who has been a backup center and guard with them since 2016. He has been active for all 32 games the last two seasons.

Within the last 48 hours, the Cowboys signed another guard-center reserve in Marcus Martin. This seemed to be the end for Looney, who was still a free agent, but now Dallas should have both players at least through the end of August.
With last year’s left guard, Jonathan Cooper, now playing for the 49ers, Dallas may be hoping that either Looney or Martin could join the starting five in 2018. They will likely still add an interior lineman in next month’s NFL Draft, but one of these experienced players may be needed to start the season.
Looney, who will turn 28 just before the season starts, is still in his prime and brings two years of system experience. Barring any larger moves, he should be competitive for the LG spot in training camp.
