Dallas Should Add DeSean Jackson To The WR Room

Perhaps the story of the off-season for the Cowboys has been the losses they have sustained at wide receiver. At the conclusion of the 2021 season, it was known that both Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson would be free agents. Amari Cooper’s contract was also bound to have an effect on the team’s ability to retain both players.

Forced to decide which of the three wideouts they wanted to keep in the fold, the Cowboys surprised everyone by bringing back Gallup. Signed to a five-year, $57,500,000 contract, it was clear that Cooper would be on the chopping block. Sent to the Browns for a fifth-round pick, Cooper and his contract were off the books. Wilson would eventually sign with the Dolphins as well, leaving just Gallup and Ceedee Lamb in the receiver room.

Despite the losses of Wilson and Cooper, the Cowboys still have a formidable duo with Lamb and Gallup. Lamb especially has always looked the part of a number one receiver and had his best season in 2021 with 79 receptions for 1,102 yards and six touchdowns. Gallup, who will be returning from injury, has always been one of Dak Prescott’s most trusted receivers.

The recently signed James Washington brings a lot of upside as well. However, the group lacks speed at this point. While all of these players can go deep, having a player with game-breaking speed is a great tool to have as an offense. This is where DeSean Jackson can be valuable.

DeSean Jackson fits the Cowboys

One of the greatest deep threats of all time, Jackson needs no introduction. This is especially true for Cowboys fans. Since he was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles back in 2008, Jackson has consistently terrorized the Cowboys. In fact, he has 61 receptions for 1,330 yards and six touchdowns against Dallas in his career. He has gone over 100 yards receiving against them five times as well.

Even at 35 years old, Jackson can still run. He displayed this early in the season with the Rams and again at points with the Raiders later in the year. In fact, perhaps his best game of the season came against the Cowboys on thanksgiving when he had four catches for 102 yards and a score.

The best way for the Cowboys to prevent Jackson from beating them on the field would be to add him to their team. As mentioned, Jackson is 35 years old and is likely looking to make one last run at a Super Bowl. Due to this, he will not be asking for much money. Jackson would fill a role in Dallas as a game-breaking speedster while also allowing the Cowboys to give the Eagles and Commanders a taste of their own medicine.
