The thought of losing Defensive Coordinator Dan Quinn this offseason is not a pleasant one. But now the New York Giants have joined the list of suitors, and losing Quinn to one of our NFC East rivals would be especially unsavory for the Dallas Cowboys.
Quinn will interview with the Giants tomorrow after a busy week speaking with other teams about their head coaching vacancies. Dan has met with the Bears, Broncos, Dolphins, and Vikings since the Cowboys’ season ended last Sunday.
As a former head coach for the Atlanta Falcons from 2015-2020, Quinn led his team to the Super Bowl in 2016 and another playoff berth the following year. He was fired in midseason after Atlanta started 0-5 in 2020.

Dan Quinn last month: “I grew up probably about 20 miles west of Manhattan…kind of my first love of football was…watching the Giants. And that was the team I followed as a kid…LT was my favorite player, there’s no doubt about it. I had the poster on the wall, the whole thing.” https://t.co/0PKgaHa1s7

Much like when he left the Seahawks in 2015, Quinn has made himself a hot name again thanks to his work as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator. He took a historically bad defense from 2020 and had them leading the league in interceptions and near the top of the NFL in deflections, opponent completion percentage, and passer rating among other categories.
Dan may very well be one-and-done for Dallas, interviewing now with his fifth team and supposedly a top candidate for the Broncos and perhaps others.
The Giants present an especially disturbing potential destination given their longtime rivalry with the Cowboys. You can also see why they’d want Quinn; he brings the tough-minded coaching style that attracted them to Joe Judge but also with the experience in the role that Judge lacked.
But while New York’s interest in Dan is logical, would it be mutual? Despite admittedly growing up as a Giants fan, would Quinn want to inherit the current mess that their roster is? After the luxury of having prime Matt Ryan in Atlanta, does Dan really want to tie his fortunes to Daniel Jones?
Even if it doesn’t end up being the Giants, Dan Quinn’s 2022 job prospects are increasingly unlikely to be with the Dallas Cowboys.
