DE DeMarcus Lawrence Says His Wife, Sasha, Encouraged Him To Play

As the Dallas Cowboys opened up training camp this week, star defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence was notably present. Of course his presence his notable due to his ability on the field, but it’s also notable after some comments he made a month ago about potentially opting out of the season due to COVID-19 fears.

Lawrence’s wife, Sasha, is expected to give birth to their daughter this October, giving Lawrence pause about putting himself and his family at risk by playing this season. He told ESPN’s Todd Archer that he was “taking it one day at a time” when making his decisions ahead of the report date.

But, ultimately, Lawrence decided to play (luckily for the Cowboys, I must say). Lawrence spoke to the Jori Epstein of USA Today about his decision to play this week, actually saying that Sasha pushed him to go to training camp as usual.

“My decision was made by my wife…She basically told me there’s no way possible that I could miss this season.” – DeMarcus Lawrence.

Lawrence went on to say that he just needs to focus on football right now, knowing that his wife will hold it down at home until he can return safely. Sasha spoke with USA Today as well, saying that she is prepared to make the sacrifice needed for DeMarcus to play this season.

“I just told him: ‘On my end, I’ll be all right” – Sasha Lawrence.

Shoutout to Sasha Lawrence because that is a hell of a burden to take on right now, especially considering they already have a young son.

Lawrence is the best player on a Cowboys defense which is expected by many to be the weak spot on this 2020 team, but he will need to be at top shape for Dallas to make a Super Bowl run this season.
