The idea that former Dallas Defensive End DeMarcus Ware will one day be inducted into the Cowboys Ring of Honor has often seemed to be a foregone conclusion. The franchise’s all-time sack leader appeared to confirm as much this week.
Barry Horn of SportsDay relayed the following from a conversation he had with Ware:
Former @dallascowboys DE @DeMarcusWare says he has had talks with Jerry Jones about Ring of Honor induction. Looks like it’s not “if” but “when.”

DeMarcus Ware’s 117 sacks as a member of the Dallas Cowboys has him firmly atop the team’s leaderboard — 22.5 sacks ahead of Jim Jeffcoat and 40 above Greg Ellis.
The closest current player is DeMarcus Lawrence, who has little shot of catching Ware with just 23.5 total sacks in his career thus far.
Ware was voted into seven Pro Bowls during his tenure in Dallas and was a first or second-team All-Pro during those same seasons.
He was also named to the NFL’s All-Decade team for the 2000s.
The only real blemish on Ware’s Cowboys resume is the lack of postseason success. Dallas only made the playoffs three times with Ware, winning just one of those three postseason games.
While there is a high standard for success with the Cowboys organization and fans, Ware is one of a few players who will not be held back by the team’s struggles since the 90s.
We can be sure that at least two of his teammates, Tony Romo and Jason Witten, will eventually join him in the Ring of Honor as well.
As the tweet said, it isn’t a matter of “if” but “when” DeMarcus Ware will join Bob Lilly, Randy White, Charles Haley, and other great Cowboys defensive players in the franchise’s most prestigious group.
I’m sure I speak for all of Cowboys Nation when I say we can’t wait for DeMarcus Ware’s big day.
