Don’t Forget About RB Jordan Chunn in the Dallas Cowboys Backfield

With Ezekiel Elliott currently M.I.A. from Dallas Cowboys training camp all eyes have been on Tony Pollard, Mike Weber, Darius Jackson, and even Alfred Morris for that matter. But nobody’s talking about second-year Running Back Jordan Chunn, who spent last year on the Cowboys practice squad. That could be changing after the way he performed at Dallas’ Blue/White Scrimmage on Sunday, August 4.

Jordan Chunn is currently buried on the Cowboys RB depth chart. He is the low man on the totem pole, so any practice reps or carries he receives is a luxury. Fortunately for him he knows this and seems to be making the most out of his opportunities. Even better, it’s not going unnoticed.

If you happened to tune into the live broadcast of the Cowboys Blue/White Scrimmage on Sunday like I did, you would have heard Jordan Chunn spoken about on more than one occasion, by more than one person. While RBs like Tony Pollard and Mike Weber have been receiving the majority of praise, Chunn was specifically mentioned by Bryan Broaddus, Stephen Jones, and Will McClay. That’s quite the trifecta.

Bryan Broaddus as the majority of us know is a Staff Writer and former scout for the Dallas Cowboys. He knows a thing or two about evaluating players, so to hear Jordan Chunn’s name come out of his mouth in a positive way shouldn’t be dismissed. But to have No. 46, no not Alfred Morris, brought up by both Stephen Jones and Will McClay should really put all of us on notice.

I don’t know about you, but but I find all of this talk about Jordan Chunn really intriguing. He’s been pretty much an afterthought in the Cowboys backfield, but he must be doing something right if he’s catching the attention of the bigwigs who have a lot of say in the evaluation process. It could go a long ways in determining his future with the organization.

It would seem that Jordan Chunn is still very much in the running back competition, despite the Cowboys two rookie draft picks (Pollard and Weber) receiving the majority of the attention and headlines. This could shape up to be a pretty interesting position battle while Ezekiel Elliott continues his holdout in the hopes of a contract extension.

One thing is for sure though, I’m going to be paying much closer attention to how No. 46 performs the rest of training camp and preseason. After all, the Cowboys have had success with players out of Troy in the past. One of which, DeMarcus Ware, should see his bust unveiled any year now in Canton, Ohio once he is voted into the Hall of Fame. Maybe Jordan Chunn can follow suit…

Do you think RB Jordan Chunn can continue to impress?
