Brandin Cooks, the wide receiver the Dallas Cowboys traded for in March, has had his share of quarterbacks over the last few years.
One future Hall of Famer spoke highly about him not to long ago.
Former Saints quarterback Drew Brees reached out to new Cowboys offensive coordinator Brain Schottenheimer.
Sending him a text saying, “you are going to love this guy.”
He and Brees are pretty close.
Schottenheimer was Brees’ quarterback coach from 2002-2005 when the two were on the San Diego Chargers before they became LA.
Anytime a guy can get praise from a guy like Brees, it should mean great things.
During their time together in New Orleans, Cooks had back-to-back 1,100-yard seasons in 2015 and 2016.
He averaged 5.1 receptions and 68.1 yards per game throughout his three-year career with the Saints.
After he left the Saints, Cooks spent time with the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, and Houston Texans.
He’s posted at least 1,000 yards in six of his nine years in the league. That is ridiculous.
The best player to NEVER make a Pro Bowl.
In my eyes, I think folks don’t fully understand how big Cooks will be in this offense. They are adding a No. 1 wide receiver that gets to line up behind CeeDee Lamb as the No. 2.
This is the best wide receiver room Dak Prescott has had in his time with the Cowboys.
He has three guys who have all eclipsed 1,000 yards in a previous season. Cooks and Lamb have done it multiple times.
Michael Gallup did it a few years ago. He sounds like he is back 100% after recovering from a torn ACL. He also gets the luxury of having an entire offseason to help regain his connection with Prescott.
You could tell even last season when he returned. He wasn’t comfortable. Mind over matter when these types of injuries happen.
Lamb, Cooks, and Gallup might be the best in football.
Cooks will cost $10 million toward the salary cap in 2024. If he returns to Dallas.
The biggest thing those around the team have noticed about Cooks thus far is his speed.
He has TOP end speed. “It’s really fun to watch him run,” Schottenheimer said.
Until they signed an aging T.Y Hilton near the end of last season, this team didn’t have anyone that had breakaway speed. Nobody that could scare the defense on a go route. Now this team has that and much more.
This “Texas Coast” offense that has been the talk around The Star the past week will be fun.
More up-tempo, get the ball out quick, and with the personal Dallas has added to the offense, I can’t wait.
It is a prove it year for Dallas. This team is loaded on both sides of the ball. Jerry Jones finally had an impressive offseason.
All we can do is talk right now, but man I can’t wait to see this team in action. I have been disappointed many times throughout the years, but this one would take the cake with all the talent they now have.
