Ezekiel Elliott Tweets Apology After Meeting with Roger Goodell

After an offseason incident in which Ezekiel Elliott was detained for a short time after an altercation with a security guard, Elliott met today with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. There’s been a lot of speculation that the Dallas Cowboys Running Back and two-time NFL rushing leader could face a suspension under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy after being suspended for six games in 2016.

Moments ago Elliott tweeted out an apology after his meeting with the Commissioner.

Earlier in the offseason, Jerry Jones stated that he did not expect Elliott to face a suspension as a result of the altercation.

Since being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, Elliott’s been under investigation for incidents most of his career, culminating in the 2017 suspension.

It’s arguable that this incident was worthy of a suspension as Elliott stumbled into the security guard in Las Vegas, but under the Personal Conduct Policy, suspensions are subjective and can be handed down at the discretion of Commissioner Goodell.

The apology likely means that the NFL won’t suspend him because of the incident as it would be in Elliott’s best interest to not say anything that could be used against him if he were suspended and wanted to appeal the suspension.

Elliott’s one of the very best players at his position in the NFL and will challenge for the league’s rushing title once again. Having him in the backfield with Quarterback Dak Prescott and behind the Cowboys’ offensive line will have Dallas as one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.

Hopefully, with this meeting out of the way, Ezekiel Elliott and the Dallas Cowboys can begin focusing on football with training camp just three weeks away.

All there’s left to do now is to go chase that sixth Lombardi.
