We are sad to inform that Wade Wilson, who both played and coached for the Dallas Cowboys close to two decades, has died. Today was his birthday, and he had just turned 60 years old.

Wilson was most recently the Quarterbacks Coach in Dallas from 2007 to 2017, having joined the staff the same year that Jason Garrett came in as Offensive Coordinator. They had previously been teammates on the Cowboys from 1995-1997.

Wilson was with four other NFL teams during his 19-year playing career. He went to a Pro Bowl in 1988 with the Minnesota Vikings. His won Super Bowl ring came from being on the Cowboys roster in 1995, the last time that Dallas won a championship.

He retired after the 1999 season and immediately went into coaching, serving his first tenure as Cowboys QB Coach from 2000-2002. He then moves into the same role with the Chicago Bears in 2003, the year that Bill Parcells came to Dallas.

Wade returned in 2007 as part of Garrett’s offensive staff and was in the position all the way through 2017. He coached Tony Romo during the bulk of his career and also helped Dak Prescott become the next major figure in Dallas’ QB lineage.
