How the Cowboys and Giants Match Up in 2022

Quarterback: Cowboys

Do you need a paragraph to explain why Dak Prescott is better than Daniel Jones? You don’t, next position.

Running Back: Cowboys

Whether Saquon Barkley is better than Ezekiel Elliott or not is up for debate, but Tony Pollard is what puts the Cowboys’ RB room over the top.

Outside of Barkley, the Giants don’t have much depth. Matt Brieda is their current backup, who isn’t as good as Pollard. Once again, having Pollard makes Dallas’ RB room better than others.

Pass-catchers: Cowboys

Kenny Golladay is one of the most overrated players in football. He battled injuries and was largely ineffective last season. The same thing can be said for Sterling Shepard, who’s been battling injuries for a few seasons.

Kadarius Toney has the potential to be great but hasn’t received the necessary targets to do so. CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup don’t have these issues and adding James Washington and Jalen Tolbert didn’t hurt either.

The Giants also don’t have an established No. 1 tight end. Meanwhile, the Cowboys have Dalton Schultz, who has proven himself to be a serviceable option.

Offensive Line: Cowboys

The Giants’ offensive line is tricky to analyze. Tackle Evan Neal will become a good player, fellow tackle Andrew Thomas took a massive leap from 2020 to 2021 and Mark Glowinski was a decent pickup at guard.

But the Cowboys have Tyron Smith and Zack Martin, two guys way more established than anyone on the Giants’ offensive line. New York has guys with potential but still with much room to grow.

Defensive Line: Giants

New York’s defensive line has promising talent, including Azeez Ojulari and 2022 first-round pick Kayvon Thibodeaux. On the interior, Leonard Williams leads the way alongside Dexter Lawrence.

The Cowboys have Demarcus Lawrence, but their lack of a great DT group gives the Giants the edge. Neville Gallimore and Osa Odighizuwa can grow but haven’t reached their full potential yet.

Linebacker: Cowboys

Once again, Micah Parsons is what gives the Cowboys this position.

Blake Martinez spent most of last season hurt, but he’s still a good player. However, he can’t compare to Parsons and the Giants’ lack depth outside of Martinez. Leighton Vander Esch gives Dallas the depth that New York doesn’t have.

Secondary: Cowboys

This would be closer if the Giants still had James Bradberry, but he’s gone now. Adoree’ Jackson is now the new No. 1 cornerback, with the Giants again lacking depth outside their primary starter.

Cordale Flott can be good, but he’s only a rookie. Meanwhile, Trevon Diggs and Anthony Brown form a good CB duo, and Malik Hooker and Jayron Kearse are a solid tandem at safety.

Xavier McKinney and Julian Love aren’t a lousy tandem, but Hooker and Kearse make up the better duo.
