With their second fifth-round pick, the Dallas Cowboys addressed their secondary and drafted Fresno State Cornerback DaRon Bland. While some fans and analysts felt their secondary was an area that the Cowboys didn’t need to address in this year’s draft, the franchise took a flier on a CB who was gaining late NFL Draft buzz.
Additionally, with the Kelvin Joseph legal situation still floating around, the pick feels like an insurance selection for the franchise in case they have to move on from him. Nonetheless, Bland is a long, twitchy corner that should provide depth to the CB room, and given his athletic traits– it’s no surprise that DC Dan Quinn likely pounded the table for his selection.
Check out some of the reactions we saw after the Bland selection:
I have been mocking DaRon Bland to the Cowboys for a reason. Plenty of late buzz on the Fresno State DB and Dallas wanted to make sure they got him.
Long, fast, and tough. Fits Dan Quinn.

Daron Bland is my CB68. Tall with long arms. Long strider who gets down the field quickly. Good arm usage to knock down passes. Raw when changing direction. Back pedal needs work. Good upside developmental prospect. #Cowboys #HallamAnalysis

#Cowboys getting DaRon Bland here! Gotta thank @BenFennell_NFL for drawing my eyes to him. Versatile secondary piece.

A little earlier than I expected, but DaRon Bland has the traits DQ is looking for. 4.46 speed — 6’0, 197 lbs with 32” arms.
Love his overall aggression – both in the run game and the catch point. He is definitely a project – but he has all the prerequisites.
