Is QB Dak Prescott the 2020 Regular Season NFL MVP Favorite?

After throwing for nearly 5,000 passing yards and 30 touchdowns last season, Dak Prescott found himself in the running for the 2019 Regular Season MVP award. Baltimore Ravens Quarterback Lamar Jackson ended up winning that title, but Prescott should not only be in the running once again in 2020 but also be one of the favorites.

Love him or hate him, Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott is one of the top players at his position in the NFL. He has the track record and numbers to prove it. Yet, for whatever reason, he’s still loathed by a large majority of fans around the Cowboys Nation. Would him winning the MVP award change that?

I don’t know if it would personally, but it would absolutely look good on his resume. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves and anoint him the MVP before the 2020 season has even gotten underway, let’s take a look at where Dak Prescott ranks among this year’s favorites.

Here are the Top 10 2020 NFL MVP favorites, per BetOnline

  1. Patrick Mahomes +400
  2. Lamar Jackson +800
  3. Dak Prescott +1200
  4. Kyler Murray +1200
  5. Russell Wilson +1200
  6. Tom Brady +1200
  7. Josh Allen +2000
  8. Aaron Rodgers +2200
  9. Carson Wentz +2500
  10. Deshaun Watson +2500

Dak Prescott currently sits third in the running to win the 2020 NFL MVP award, however, you may have noticed his odds of winning are the same as Kyler Murray, Russell Wilson, and Tom Brady. You may have also noticed there’s not a single non-QB in the Top 10. Running Back Christian McCaffrey (+3300) narrowly missed out, currently sitting 14th on BetOnline’s list.

I can’t argue with BetOnline’s current 2020 MVP rankings. I think having Dak Prescott currently sitting in third is about right. Having said that though, I would think his odds of winning are much closer to Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson’s then they are to Kyler Murray, Russell Wilson, and Tom Brady.

Prescott’s supporting cast increases his odds of becoming the 2020 MVP in my opinion. His offensive line, running back, and receiving core are all Top 5 in the league. Add in the fact he should be even better in the Year 2 under Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore and the fact Mike McCarthy should benefit him as well, and No. 4 becomes an MVP favorite in my way of thinking.

This is a good news, bad news situation for the Dallas Cowboys. On one hand their QB should be one of the best in the entire league in 2020, but on the other if he wins the MVP award it will increase his asking price for a long-term extension. It’s really going to be interesting to see how all of this plays out.

Do you think Dak Prescott will be the 2020 NFL MVP?
