If there’s one thing the Dallas Cowboys have been known for over the last decade, it’s their superb drafting in the early rounds.
Whether it’s Zack Martin, Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, Byron Jones or just about any of the Cowboys first round picks since 2010 – Dallas almost always knocks it out of the park. Despite this unique level of early round success, however, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones let the world know he has “the one who got away” from him as well.
“You broke my heart,” Jerry Jones told Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald at the Super Bowl this week, referencing that he was taken just three picks before the Cowboys came on the clock.
According to TMZ Sports Jones reportedly ran into Donald outside of a restaurant in Miami, and let him know just how badly he wanted to put a star on his helmet. Jones went on to call Aaron Donald the “definition of a war daddy,” and anyone who’s watched Donald play knows this to be true.
Though they did miss out on one of the best defensive players in the entire league during that 2014 draft, Dallas did take Zack Martin who is on a Hall of Fame trajectory of his own.
Martin has been named All Pro four times and been voted as a Pro Bowl each of his first six seasons. He’s undoubtedly one of the best offensive lineman in all of football, and has had some fun battles with Aaron Donald over the years.
