Jerry Jones Says “Systems Are On Go” for Cowboys Training Camp in Oxnard

The Dallas Cowboys held their 2021 rookie mini-camp this weekend. This is the first opportunity for draftees to showcase their talent as they begin the rigorous journey that comes with being an NFL player.

Another huge part of the Cowboy’s preparation for the new season is approaching, training camp. After Friday’s minicamp practice, team Owner Jerry Jones was asked about where things stood with the Cowboys holding their training camp in Oxnard, California. Jones kept it short, sweet, and direct with his answer.

“We have a few details to work out, but I’d say systems are on go,” Jones said.

These words are similar to those Jones uttered last week during the Cowboys press conference in which they announced the signing of Dak Prescott’s long-term deal. Jones stated not only did he expect a return to Oxnard but also that he believes AT&T Stadium will be at full capacity in 2021.

“Now we are going to Oxnard, we are going to have training camp, we are going to do it safe,” Jones said. “We’re going to have that stadium full, and we are going to do it safe. We had the most fans out there last year.”

The coronavirus pandemic eliminated the Cowboy’s annual trip to California for training camp last summer, and it was held at The Star in Frisco, Texas. Of course, there are still hurdles to overcome when factoring in the league’s approval and cooperating with the city of Oxnard for it to happen, but Jones seems confident that all the details will work themselves out.

If things go according to plan there’s still the issue of fans being in attendance. Always one to want a big crowd whenever his team makes an appearance, Jones anticipates plenty of spectators will be there under the California sun.

“We’re working on that,” Jones said. “I’d like that to not be an issue. I think we’re going to be satisfied with what we do there, but there are differences of opinion out there. I think we’ll be able to have a lot of participation.”

Time will tell how this all plays out, but it looks the Cowboys will be “California Dreaming” per the usual once training camp commences.

I write dope stuff about the Dallas Cowboys and what not.
