Last weekend on Fox, Jerry Jones announced that he will finally induct Jimmy Johnson into the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor on December 30th.

Halleluiah, it is about time!

Although I was born in 1996, Johnson was before my time, I have still been a Dallas Cowboys fan my entire life. I, just like all the others knew it should have been in years ago.

As everyone should know, Johnson won two Super Bowls with the Cowboys in the 90s.

Tom Landry is the only other coach in the Ring of Honor.

Cowboys Curse Broken?

Deep down, at some point, every Cowboys fan pointed to Johnson not being in the Ring of Honor for a reason as a reason Dallas hasn’t won anything since he left.

Although I always said it half-jokingly, weirder things have happened.

The way the Cowboys look right now was the perfect time to let Johnson in.

This is the first time Jones will induct two folks in the same season.

On October 29th, DeMarcus Ware was put into the honor.

The game on December 30th will be a Saturday night at home against the Detroit Lions.

ESPN will be hosting the game; therefore, Troy Aikman, Johnsons’ former quarterback, will be there. Perfect timing.

“There’s nothing magic about the timing with the Ring of Honor,” Jones said. “This just felt right with Troy being here also.”

Jones can say what he wants when asked, but we will never get a straight answer as to what made him change his mind.

Johnson should have been in YEARS ago and is just now being put in.

Johnson was the first coach ever to win both a national title and a Super Bowl.

The Cowboys went 1-15 in Johnson’s first season, but then three years later, they became Super Bowl champs, including going back-to-back.

Former players under Johnson, such as Michael Irvin, Nate Newton, and others, spoke about what it means to them and how happy they are for Johnson.

They all understood how important it was for him to become the second coach to be placed in the Ring of Honor.

This may not affect the outcome of this season, but for the first time in a long time, everything is going the right way for the Dallas Cowboys from top to bottom.

By the time Johnson Night comes on December 30th, the Cowboys will have already played the Eagles again, Buffalo and Miami.

Depending on how the Lions finish, that game may or may not have playoff seeding on the line.

I am sure Jerry got sick and tired of all of the former players and coaches asking him when he would put Johnson in, so he just went ahead and did it.

I am glad this is over also, so now I have to find something else to blame if the Cowboys come up short in the playoffs again.

Johnson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020. The ceremony took place in 2021, I was there. It was fun to see him go in then, and it will be fun to see him go in the Cowboys Ring of Honor.
