Cornerback Jourdan Lewis entered this season with all the confidence in the world after a productive 2019 campaign. Playing in all 16 games with five starts he registered 51 tackles, two interceptions, four sacks, six passes defended, and a fumble recovery (returned it for a touchdown). On top of that, 2020 is a contract year for Lewis which will always be a source of motivation.
Unfortunately, though, Lewis suffered an ankle injury nearly a month ago in training camp and hasn’t practiced since. On Wednesday, however, Lewis was a full participant in practice and is on track to make his 2020 debut this Sunday vs the Atlanta Falcons.

There’s never been a doubt about the talent of Lewis, especially if you look at his production last season and his rookie year in 2017. He was pretty much put on the self in 2018 under former Defensive Backs Coach Kris Richard who leaned more towards bigger defensive backs, and at 5’10, Lewis didn’t see a whole lot of playing time. Although he played in 15 games, he only produced a pedestrian 12 tackles, an interception, and two fumble recoveries.
During the offseason, the Cowboys completely overhauled their coaching staff. In an interview with several staff writers from DallasCowboys.com back in June, Lewis talked about how he’s ready for a clean slate with this new regime.
“It’s definitely a clean slate,” Lewis said. “You know everybody has a clean slate and they’re just looking at what we’ve done in the past. They’re looking at the sample size that they do have to go out there and watch us and watch the film and the movements, and they see what they want to implement in their new defense.”
It looks like now Lewis will get his shot to take advantage of said clean slate this Sunday. Falcons receivers Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley both went over 100 yards in Week 1 vs the Seattle Seahawks so getting Lewis back is just what the doctor ordered.
