Former Bleacher Report Staff Writer/Draft Analyst Matt Miller is at it again. He recently released his Mock Draft 2.0 where he predicts the first three rounds with trades and compensatory picks included. You have to be a subscriber to see the mock draft in its entirety, but I can share with you who he selected for the Dallas Cowboys at least.
Let’s take a look and then discuss…
Round 1, Pick 10 – CB Caleb Farley, Virginia Tech
Caleb Farley would fill a position of need and fits Dan Quinn’s preferred parameters for a tall, lengthy cornerback. I can’t find any fault in Matt Miller’s selection here and I highly doubt the Dallas Cowboys would either.
Round 2, Pick 44 – OT James Hudson, Cincinnati
With both Tyron Smith and La’el Collins returning from season-ending injuries and the need for depth behind them, James Hudson absolutely makes sense. He’s a DT turned OT with arguably the highest ceiling of any LT prospect in the 2021 draft class.
Round 3, Pick 75 – DT Marlon Tuipulotu, USC
The Dallas Cowboys need to upgrade their defensive front is obvious and Matt Miller’s selection of Marlon Tuipulotu helps in that area. He provides much-needed depth and can probably play either the one or three-technique in Dallas’ 4-3 defensive scheme.
Round 3, Pick 100 – EDGE Daelin Hayes, Notre Dame
The selection of Daelin Hayes is the first and only head scratcher I have from Matt Miller selections for the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas could use more depth at DE, but I don’t know how well Hayes fits Dan Quinn scheme. I believe he’s more of a hybrid defender.
Overall I don’t have anything really negative to say about the players the Matt Miller selected for the Dallas Cowboys in his mock draft 2.0. I think each and every pick makes sense, with the exception of maybe Daelin Hayes. I just don’t know how well he fits Dan Quinn’s defensive scheme since he played mostly out of a two point stance during his time at Notre Dame. Other than that though, I would be completely happy if this is how the Cowboys first three rounds played out.
