In a press conference yesterday as part of the Dallas Cowboys’ rookie camp, Head Coach Mike McCarthy stated that Quarterback Dak Prescott is expected to be medically cleared to participate at training camp later this summer.
Prescott suffered a season-ending ankle injury in October of 2020 which required surgery to fix. Dak was on a record-setting pace in passing yards over those first five weeks, which helped him secure a lucrative long-term contract from the Cowboys this offseason despite the major injury.
Mike McCarthy expects Dak Prescott to do “most things” as Cowboys transition into on-field work in the offseason program. “He feels really good. He’s had some excellent workouts the last couple weeks.”
McCarthy expects Dak to be completely cleared for the start of training camp.

Thankfully, it doesn’t appear this injury will cost Prescott any significant offseason work. McCarthy even said he should be able to participate in the practices and camps during late-May and June, though to what extent remains to be seen.
Getting QB1 back for the official training camp is huge for any team, but especially now as the Cowboys look to retool following a dismal 6-10 season and return to playoff contention. And after being out since October, Dak and his teammates will have even more work to do to re-find their rhythm.
The official start date for camp has not yet been announced. Because they play in the Hall of Fame Game this year, the Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers will likely be granted an earlier start to their camps than the rest of the NFL.
Thankfully, whenever that is, Dak Prescott should be a full participant.
