Four days ago the Dallas Cowboys signed Cornerback Maurice Canady off the free agent market. With the spotlight of The Star bringing some critical remarks about Canady’s game, the veteran took to Twitter today respond to those who doubt what he brings to the Cowboys.
With Byron Jones leaving there are Dallas fans and analysts rightfully concerned about the CB position. That has led to some extra scrutiny on Canady as the new name coming in, even though his $1.25 million contract for 2020 clearly shows he’s not meant to replace Jones’ place as the team’s top corner.
However, despite only having four career starts so far in the NFL, Maurice clearly believes he’s being underrated.
Didn’t start in a game that I caught a pick in
Didn’t start in a game that I forced a fumble
“Not a starter” but made a 11 stops
So miss me wit that bs 🤷🏾♂️— 444 (@MauriceCanady26) March 22, 2020
You love to see this attitude as Canady enters this next opportunity in his career. As a sixth-round pick in 2016 he’s been fighting his way onto rosters since coming into the NFL.
There should be plenty of opportunity with the Cowboys in 2020. After bringing back Anthony Brown and C.J. Goodwin, in addition to still having Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis on the roster, Dallas appears to be going for full-scale competition rather than a predetermined pecking order.
Dallas added Maurice Canady to provide depth and hopefully compete for a bigger role than he’s previously had in the league. We’ll see if his confidence now translates to big things on the field.
