If you were hoping for new Dak Prescott news, you’re going to have to wait a bit longer.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported today that the NFL is extending their deadline for franchise tags to be placed on players for the 2020 season, moving it back to March 16th. This means that the deadline has been pushed twice. First from the 10th to 12th, now through the weekend to the 16th.

What does this mean for the Cowboys?
Well, Jerry Jones and company have some extra time to negotiate an actual contract with their quarterback prior to potentially placing the franchise tag on him. The tag would keep Prescott from hitting the open market, and allow Dallas to negotiate with Prescott through the Summer without him being courted by other teams.
Still, the logistics around the new CBA complicate any league year deadlines which are being set. What’s good for the Cowboys, though, is that they can still utilize both the franchise and transition tags for the 2020 league year, as the new CBA is yet to be agreed upon.
This could allow the Cowboys to keep Prescott and wide receiver Amari Cooper under their control for the season, without making long term commitments.
The Cowboys are entering one of their most important, and most chaotic offseasons in quite some time. And while they figure out their own internal affairs, the league they play in is also going through massive transition.
It should be quite the next couple of months.
